Getting around Palawan with IslandTrips PH
Palawan is the Philippines' longest island and its roads are surprisingly well-suited for private transport. The main highway from Puerto Princesa to El Nido passes through stunning jungle scenery, remote beaches, and small towns that shared vans simply speed past. Renting a private van or hiring a driver gives you the flexibility to stop at Nacpan Beach, the Ugong Rock caves, or any roadside coconut stand along the way.
Most travelers arrive at Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS) and head either north toward El Nido, or south toward Quezon and Tubbataha. Airport transfers from PPS start at ₱800 one way. For the 5–6 hour drive to El Nido, we recommend booking a Toyota Hi-Ace with a driver — the long distance makes a professional at the wheel far more comfortable.
Self-drive is also popular in Palawan, particularly for travelers based in Puerto Princesa who want to explore Honda Bay or Iwahig River at their own pace. A valid International Driving Permit is required for foreign nationals.
